Over 20 years ago I was fortunate to have my first experience Fly Fishing the rivers of Southeastern British Columbia. Let's just say the fishing was incredible then! I may not have been that great of fly fisherman (still not that great...) but we caught lots of fish!! (catch and release ofcourse) Now I recently returned to that favorite river and the fishing qaulity is just as good as it was 20 years ago! Now I have heard some complaints about the new fishing regulations and that people are not happy paying the extra fee to fish these special rivers. But I applaud the hardwork and effort of Bill Bennett to work with the local outdoor community, fishing guides and locals to come up with a plan that protects the integrity of the fishery and provides one of the highest qaulity fly fishing experiences in North America! Many other river systems in North America should model this plan. Visit the local fly shops in the towns of Kimberley and Fernie as they provide lots of great expertise and information to get you set up fishing these wonderful rivers!

Historic annoucement for Kootenay Region - new Delta Air Service from Salt Lake City, Utah to Canadian Rockies International this winter starting December 17th 2008!! This is huge news and culmination of 10years of hard work by dedicated team. This service will have significant impact on the Regional economy and will benefit all who live in the communities that the airport provides service for. As will provide a great air access to the world for vacations and for fostering business relationships! We are fortunate to have long-term leadership and dedication to the project by MLA, Bill Bennett, Mayor Ross Priest of Cranbrook, Mayor MacNair of Fernie and Mayor Ogilvie of Kimberley to make this Air Service possible. This new air service is a huge positive step of the Region working together to see a shared vision of being a premier destination to ski, golf, fish, hunt, hike, bike, relax, enjoy nature, sightsee, and play!

Stampede is a great time to meet and see lots of people! I enjoyed catching up with Emily Brydon. Emily is a Fernie local who excels at Ski Racing. But what I am most impressed with is that not only is Emily an amazing Downhiller on the Canadian National Ski Team but she is also an amazing person! Emily is a passionate, driven, happy person who is full of care and kindness. A person we should all be proud of as she reaches out to support many good causes in Canada and abroad. One very important to the community of Fernie and the Elk Valley is the Emily Brydon Foundation which supports many local youth.
