Friday, 29 August 2008 16:47 by matt

Last weekends Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival at Fernie Alpine Resort was a great event!! Lot's of great community fun was had by all ages. We are proud to support the Fernie Mountain Bike Club - a great organization that is busy doing trail work in the Elk Valley and also working on a community project in town to give all mountain bikers access to a freestyle park. All local volunteers working hard for our community. Back to the Event- the weather was perfect and the trails were in great shape! Thanks to the Fernie Alpine Resort Trail Crew- way to go Marc Ledoux, Events team of Christine, Karen and Jeni and all of the team! a Huge effort this summer and lots of positive comments from guests enjoying the trails! The Enduro Downhill sure was a crowd pleaser and many people also enjoyed watching their videos on the 'Big Screen' - beats sitting on the couch anyday....Everybody enjoyed the Dub Bro's video. If into mountain biking and want an event that is full of fun and has a great vibe this is the one to make next summer!

Summer Snowfall at Fernie Alpine Resort

Friday, 29 August 2008 16:24 by matt

We have had our first significant snowfall on the Lizard Headwall last weekend at Fernie Alpine Resort!! The Farmer's Almanac predicts a 'Snowy' winter for the Canadian Rockies for 2008/09. That usually means huge snowfall for the southern part of the Canadian Rockies.

For fellow Powder seekers looking to choose their destination to ski this winter, take a look at this Snowfall Graph, as it makes the decision a 'no brainer'!!!

Look forward to seeing you on the slopes of Fernie Alpine Resort!

Summer Grooming? what is that.....

Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:54 by matt

When it comes to summer improvements at ski resorts, the term 'Summer Grooming' is often used. I have had a few guests ask, "what is Summer Grooming?" Surely the ski resort doesn't run it's grooming machines over the rocks, brush and small trees, does it??? Yes- some people have asked if there is snow on the ground in the middle of the summer....Not at All. Summer grooming refers to an intense program of trail and run maintenance that reduces dead-fall (fallen or dead trees), reduces brush or overgrowth- basically we give the slopes a trim. This also helps mother nature by giving the trees proper spacing for growth and reduces the fuels for potential forest fires. It is a win win for skiers and riders and mother nature!
