Mining History abounds in the Ski town of Kimberley, British Columbia

Wednesday, 25 March 2009 09:24 by matt

Kimberley is full of mining history. Don't miss the Bavarian City Mining Railway tour in the summer! It is one of the most unique tours of its kind in the world. The train takes you into an actual mining shaft with real miners showing demonstration of various mining techniques. The real miners are a real hit for all and make sure to ask them lots of questions as they have interesting tales to share of life underground. Kimberley, British Columbia not only makes a great history tour in the Summer but also you can find some of the mining history on the slopes of Kimberley Alpine Resort. It is great fun for kids to enjoy the wonderful ski trails through the trees to find the various mining shafts that dot the mountain. Make sure and do not enter them but take in the view from outside the shaft/cave for your safety.

Kids love mining history- Kimberley Alpine Resort, one place in Canada where you can view History of mining on the ski slopes

More details on Kimberley, British Columbia history:

The history of Kimberley dates back to the summer of 1891with the discovery of Galena at the North Star Mine, which is now the location of the popular Kimberley Alpine Resort.  In 1892 four prospectors, E.C. Smith, John Cleaver, Pat Sullivan and Walter Burchette discovered a high-grade out crop of minerals to the west of the North Star Mine that became known as the famous Sullivan Mine.  Pat Sullivan, after whom the mine was named, never lived to see the great riches that the mine had to offer as he was killed in a mining accident in Idaho in 1896.

Kimberley Alpine Resort has the most new Gladed Tree Skiing runs in Canada

Wednesday, 25 March 2009 08:51 by matt

Kimberley Alpine Resort offers some of the best Gladed Skiing in Canada. We have turned the pine beetle devastation into a positive for the community, the environment and for the skiers and riders who enjoy Kimberley Alpine Resort. The Pine Beetle has been killing the pine forests of British Columbia. With vigor and community spirit the team at Kimberley Alpine Resort set out to reduce the beetle by cutting down the trees that are infested with the beetle. Not just random cutting but a planned cut that not only reduced or mitigated the beetle but also enhanced the Gladed Tree Skiing experience and for the community we reduced the fuels in the forest. This is important to help reduce risk of wild fire for our community.

All ages enjoy the amazing glades at Kimberley Alpine Resort

Monday, 23 March 2009 08:41 by matt

we have had incredible snow in the last two weeks, two great ski parties and many ski stars have been visiting Fernie. But one of my favorites and an all around great guy who was just here is Scot Schmidt. Scot a long-time ski legend, known for his incredible all-mountain ski skills has been to Fernie many times. He loves coming up for the incredible beauty, terrain and deep snow! Check the Fernie Snow Report for the latest on the snow as we skied pow up top and had good groomed runs near the base.

"Best Skiing in BC at Fernie Alpine Resort"

Thursday, 19 March 2009 17:16 by matt

Now i may feel that is true but this comment/observation came to me from a guest this week who had recently skied all of the major resorts in BC on a road trip and had ended their journey at Fernie Alpine Resort. We are very appreciative of this input as feel there is much great skiing in British Columbia. Credit to our grooming staff, mountain op's team, all of our hard-working team in-resort that 'giver' every day to create the best possible guest experience. Also would not be possible without mother nature's support!

March 18th pretty good day in Paradise! come out and enjoy the deep snow, bright sun and lots of fun!
